Services Provided are: The Guardian ad Litem Program provides trained community volunteers to investigate and determine the needs of abused and neglected children who are petitioned into the court system by the Department of Social Services. The Guardian ad Litem makes independent recommendations to the court about services which focus on the needs of search child. The Guardian ad Litem Volunteer advocates for a permanent and safe home for every child within the shortest time possible. The Guardian ad Litem does not provide any direct services. The Guardian ad Litem program primary focus is advocacy.

Services Provides are: Information and Support for Families of children with Special Needs in Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Mitchell, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancey counties. Provides information and support for families who have a premature infant, a child with a disability or chronic illness or a family who has experienced the death of their child. Can match a family one-to-one with a trained, volunteer Support Parent who has a child with special needs. These volunteer families provide emotional support and share the expertise of their own experiences. Supports professional working with families caring for children with special needs. Sponsors workshops, trainings and support groups. Promotes collaboration among parents, families and service providers.

Description:
Provides services to parents and their children- infants, toddlers, 2 year olds, 3-year olds, and 4-year olds. The CDC also serves as an observation and internship laboratory for students from the Early Childhood Education Curriculum, Human Services Curriculum, and the Nurse Education Program. The Center's objective is to address holistically each child's needs through developmentally appropriate care practice based upon the Creative Curriculum model. We also maintain a low staff-to-child ratio according to North Carolina's 5 star and National Association for the Education of Young Children requirements.
